Happy List 5-2-11

My happy list this week is all about BLOOMSDAY! This year we were expecting sunshine and warm weather, and yesterday did not disappoint. What a great blessing after having bizarre weather leading up to the event.  I was nervous all weekend with my "what-ifs" worrying about my injury but my husband did a great job smoothing over my fears. My childhood friend, Sarah, came from out of town and joined in on the fun.

 There were SO many people!

I didn't get as many pictures this year because I was so focused on trying to finish the race and not giving up to walking the entire route. I didn't do much training for the race, hoping I could minimize any inflammation in my post tib tendon. And I definitely felt the lack of training as it was so hard to keep a jogging pace.  But I definitely pushed myself like I've never pushed my body before and although I didn't do as great in my time as last year, it was so rewarding seeing that finish line and knowing I didn't give up! And Hallelujah - no falls this year!!

370 days until Bloomsday 2012!

My Happy List

A great weekend all around, we went back to my hometown for a few days and it was so good to see my parents and sister, and catch up with our dear friends! Sunday was the Race for the Cure event and although I was planning on running it, my injury has been flaring up so I decided to take it easy instead.

It was such an honor to participate in this event in celebration of my aunt, a breast cancer survivor.

There was an estimated 10,000 people walking, running, and wheeling along!
My friend Julia and her dad joined us, they walked in memory of her great aunt.
There were so many people, it was nearly impossible to power walk, so we kept pace with the crowd.
Finish line in 1 hour and 1 minute! It was a cold morning, but I was just thankful it didn't snow!

Happy List 4-3-11

I am so happy this has been such a great weekend, I hate to see it come to an end. After an interesting week at work, by Thursday I was definitely needing some girlfriend time and met up for weekly Grey's night. We started off with a jog along the river followed by yummy Mexican food that I'd had leftover from lunch we had catered at work. Although Sara Ramirez is a rockstar singer in my book, I thought the Grey's musical episode was a little off for me. I still had so much fun that evening!

Friday was spent lounging at our house and my friend came over to make some yummy chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes (recipe to follow!). I also got a quick jog in at the park while my husband practiced hitting a few softballs. I'm working hard to get back into jogging, Bloomsday and Maui are just around the corner!

Saturday, Steele's softball game was canceled due to weather, which he was super bummed about all morning so I suggested a date night. We went on a double date with our friends for martinis and a late movie. Pineapple upside down martini for me and rootbeer float martini for Julia!

Today, we walked with some friends in the annual MS Walk. It started off super duper cold but warmed up as the walk went on. We celebrated with a bbq at our place afterwards with plenty of Fat Tires to spare (they are very near and dear to my heart since this is the beer we served at our wedding. I rarely drink it so it still has that special feeling for me :).

Happy List 2.6.11

I am so thankful this weekend.  I had a biopsy done on Friday morning and everything went very smoothly.  Aside from feeling like I was punched in the surgical area and a few side effects from the pain meds, I feel so blessed.  My husband has been absolutely wonderful in taking care of me and I seriously could feel the power of all the prayers and well-wishes from our family and friends!

I must be super duper excited for the Super Bowl because as I was waking up from the surgery, my conversation with the nurse went like this:

Me drowsily to the nurse: "Is it over?"
Nurse: "Yes, we're all done!"
Me: "Oh my gosh, I was dreaming about what appetizers I was going to bring to the Super Bowl party!"
Nurse: "I know, you were telling us about this artichoke dip - it sounded delicious!"

Ha!

Happy List 1-16-11

After searching for a church to call home over the past two years, last Sunday, we attended a new church (new to us :) and we think it may be the one! And bonus, it's about 2 blocks away from our house so we can walk there when the weather is a little nicer! I'm very excited to meet new people and continue to grow in our faith.

The way we heard about the church, besides driving by it everyday, was several months ago, my mom had recommended I check out their woman's Bible study but I never got around to going. When we went to the service last week, in the announcements they had mentioned the woman's Bible study was starting their new session. So, Tuesday I went to the Bible study and there were about 10 of us in there. I loved it because there was a wide range of ages in there, from freshman in college to 65+ years old. We will reading out of the book, Having a Mary Spirit.

My ukulele arrived just in time for our next class and it was fun to play along with my new toy! This week we covered chords. I'm really looking forward to learning different strumming patterns.  Right now I'm kind of just making spastic strumming motions :)

We had our company holiday party on Friday night. This year, it was at a beautiful winery, a 100+ year old brick building.  I spent most of my time in the cellar talking with the owner about where they get the grapes, how long they let the wine sit in the barrels before bottling and other fun facts.  We had casino games, and at the end, I almost won a prize that was meant to go to the youngest employee, but there was someone else that had me beat! Oh well, it was a fun time and beautiful location.

My Happy List: 11-21-10

What a fun week it has been!!

We went to two concerts - Little Big Town AND Sara Bareilles (this was a treat for my upcoming bday)! Sara Bareilles was so incredible, I am amazed how beautiful her voice is! Her opening acts were really good too - Holly Conlan and Cary Brothers.

We have started painting the ceiling in our basement and I'll be very happy when it's all over! Super stoked for this next week. My birthday, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, that's when the holidays really begin for me! We had a bit of snow this morning, it was a cold 27 degrees out!

This Sunday's Happy list is a recap of my relaxing weekend.  I mentioned Friday our aunt and uncle were going to visit us (they live about 3 hours away), and within an hour after they arrived Friday evening they got a call that their daughter-in-law was going to the hospital for some contractions she was having (she was due December 15th). Our visit with them was short since they had to pack up and leave very, very early the next morning but...little Maxwell Clay made his arrival early this Sunday morning at 5 lbs 14 oz and 18 1/2 inches long!

Because of their early departure, hubby and I decided to try some paint samples out so we can finally get to finishing our basement.

We picked blue for our bedroom and haven't decided what to paint our family room. It is a half daylight basement so we don't want something that will make it feel like a dungeon. I'm thinking the second tan in from the left or we may be picking another sample.

I also picked up this super cute apron after eating breakfast at Chaps (recently featured on Diners, Drives and Dives)It was quite the popular place and we had to wait about 40 minutes to make our order but it was worth the wait! Boy was that blueberry muffin french toast delicious! I'm thankful this place is quite a ways away from us, otherwise we may be spending a lot more time there!

Happy List

My SIL has been posting her Happy List from Dandelion Wishes and I thought it'd be fun to play along this week. So many things to be thankful for it's nice to be able to take a moment and reflect on it :)

1. My mom has been in the hospital all week with an infection she developed from a cyst she had removed.  She's hoping to be released this morning, and I'm just thankful she and my dad caught it early enough it didn't become something more serious.

2. I'm super excited for my little sister - she starts her first day of college this week. It's so hard to believe I was in her shoes 7 years ago!! Hoping all goes well for her, especially during her piano auditions! They are mostly a formality - she had an impromptu audition with the music teachers (one was my high school band teacher!) last spring and they told her she's in :)

3. My husband's aunt & uncle and uncle's mom came to visit us this weekend. From the first time I met them, they have welcomed me with open arms and I just love them to pieces! I paint Aunt's nails and she shares classic movies with me. It's perfect.  It was her birthday yesterday and she chose Indian cuisine.  Naan and dal makhani, YUM.

4. I'm super excited for all my favorite shows to premiere this week: Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice & Glee!! I don't watch TV except for these shows so it has been a long summer without them.
